About Sally Soames (from her website)

Sally Soames was born in London and has lived there all her life. Her first assignment was
for The Observer in 1963. She freelanced for The Guardian, The New York Times, Newsweek,
The Observer and the Sunday Times, and various TV and film companies in the UK and the
USA. Sally joined the staff of The Sunday Times in 1968 and remained there until June 2000.

Exhibitions: Photographs of Auschwitz at The Jewish Museum, New York in 1981. The Photographers
Gallery in 1987 and The National Portrait Gallery in 1995.

 Sally's photographs are in the National
Collection in the UK, and The Jewish Museum, New York and in various collections worldwide.


Books published, MANPOWER published by Andre Deutsch 1987, introduction by Harold Evans,
WRITERS published in the UK by Andre Deutsch 1995, preface by Norman Mailer.

WRITERS ALSO PUBLISHED IN USA by Chronicle Books, and chosen Book Of The Month Club
and in The Netherlands by Penguin Books. External examiner and lecturer at The London College
of Printing, and The Royal College of Art. 

Recent assignments include the photographs for The
Prime Minister, Tony Blair for the general election 2001.

In 2008 Sally donated her archive to the Scott Trust Foundation which has now been
fully catalogued.
